First Trimester: Weeks 6-10

Oh boy are we flying through this pregnancy!! We are already at 10. Wowzers! Okay maybe this doesn’t seem far along for many of you, but for a first timer like me this is going fast. I want to remember every second of every day during this pregnancy because before I know it, Baby C will be here.

Okay, let’s jump right in! Here is what happened during week 6- 10:

  • Week 6: Sweet Pea

At this stage Baby C is the size of a sweet pea and starting to look more like a human and less like a science experiment. Think I’m kidding look up what a baby looks like in weeks 4 & 5. Remember you have been warned! 😉

  • Week 7: Blueberry

This week your little baby is working on the growth and development of its: kidneys, brain, leg and arm joints. How exciting! Have you gone to the OBGYN yet? between weeks 7-10 is when you usually schedule your first appointment.

  • Week 8 : Rasberry

If your morning sickness hasn’t kicked in yet, this could be the week. Nausea, food aversions and the urge to pee often are a few symptoms you may experience this week. Did you know that your uterus has already doubled in size? You may not look pregnant, but the frequent trips to the bathroom will definitely make you feel pregnant.

  • Week 9 : Cherry

It’s time to celebrate – your baby is no longer an embryo, it has grown into a fetus! Though not distinct enough to pick up in an ultrasound, your baby’s features are starting to resemble that of a human and not an alien. One more thing to celebrate is the fact that you have now entered the third month of your pregnancy. For those of you struggling with horrible morning sickness, there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The second trimester brings more balance to your hormones and usually less morning sickness. Hallelujah!

  • Week 10 : Strawberry

All of the babies vital organs are developed and they are beginning to function. Say whaaat?! They are even creating little fingernails and growing hair this week. Some of you may see your baby kicking around if you get an ultrasound this week. Week 10 may also bring the joy of a little, but noticeable baby bump. Not everyone will show this early, but many mamas do notice a slight curve to their tummies.

Surviving weeks 6-10

We are in the home stretch of the first trimester! By now I am still suffering from morning sickness and struggling with keeping down food. I cannot wait until the second trimester begins and I regain my energy and appetite, but until then here are a few more recommendations of how to survive these dark days.

  • Rest up: Remember you are creating a human inside of you so make sure not to over work yourself and get lots of rest!
