Portage Glacier

Portage Glacier Lake

This is going to be a fairly short post, since it’s just about one little ‘ol glacier, but it is worth its own post because of how beautiful it was! Not the glacier itself, but the area surrounding it! If I remember correctly, it was about an hour and a half to two hours from Anchorage. But that is one of the best parts! There are so many different places to pull off and take photos along the way. From the coastline on your right to the surreal mountains with waterfalls every few miles on your left, there is an abundance of views. Heck, the whole drive is a view! Lol.

But the absolute prettiest place out of our whole trip is at the bottom of Portage Glacier. Once you make a left (following the signs, and directions for Portage), you will start to wind around a little bit, and on your left will be a glistening blue river/creek. So pretty, worth pulling over here and there. But on your right is where the special lake, Portage Glacier Lake, is located. The water is serene, as if it’s frozen in time, out of this world. And right above it is part of the glacier, which makes for one of the prettiest, if not the absolute most gorgeous sight you can see, a definite photo op.

So definitely go check out Portage glacier, if not just for this one little lake. The water is just glowing with magic, drawing you in and grasping your attention minute after minute. And those were the best minutes spent because we will hold that image in our memories forever.

Thanks for reading and I hope you get the chance to go check out Portage Glacier and Portage Glacier Lake! Let me know if you have any questions!

    1. Hmmm… I had a few other people take a look and it worked for them. Give it one more try with a different browser, if you can!
