Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Meditation, but do you know the purpose of it? Meditation has been around for thousands of years.. yeah since foreva!! The simple practice of meditation has scientifically shown changes in our bodies and mind. The more you meditate the more overall progress you see and the longer the results will last.
Meditation is whaaaat?
The practice of focussing on one object (usually your breath), observing the mind and how it wanders, and then bringing your focus back to that one object. This practice allows us to better understand how our mind works + aids in our ability to direct our participation with our environment. Many of us tend to get caught up in our environment and allow it to guide us, but this is not how we live life to the fullest!
What changes do you see?
Neuroscientists have found that with a consistent practice of meditation you can literally rewire your brain and control your mind + body’s health. Both Long-term and short- term effects have been seen in recent studies.
Long – term health benefits:

In seasoned meditators (those who practice regularly) denser grey matter linked to memory + emotional processing was found. They also noticed their empathy, resilience to issues, and consideration showed great benefits to their health and overall choices in regards to these circumstances. In addition those studies showed their levels of compassion were boosted after regularly meditating.
Taking the time to meditate will allow you to properly evaluate all aspects of a situation and not be quick to judge. As you can see there has been so much scientific results that show the benefits of meditation- try including it in your daily routine and see if these results are the same for you!
Don’t know where to start? There are numerous apps out there and youtube videos that will help instruct you through the basics of meditating. One great thing about meditating is that you do not need anything to do so! If you are in a busy room, in your car, your bedroom, or anywhere you can close your eyes and begin to meditate.
I live in a house with several other people and I am easily distracted- it can also get a little difficult to stay focussed sometimes so I have set up a meditation area in my bedroom. This allows me to have a little area of relaxation + what I call my “focus zone.”
